Thief Returns Lupita Nyong'o's Oscar Gown Claiming Its 6,000 Pearls Are Fake

After stealing the $150K worth pearl dress that Lupita wore to the 87th Academy Awards, the thief is said to have later called TMZ. The thief said he had removed some of the pearls and took them to Los Angeles' garment district. He says the pearls were found to be fake so the dress is worthless. Of course he failed to consider the fact that the gown must be priceless by the virtue of belonging to an Oscar winner and being worn to the 87th Academy Awards last Sunday. Francisco Costa who designed the dress for Calvin Klein says after verification the dress will be restored and archived. The designer says that the dress now represents even more value for the brand.

Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar Dress Worth $150,000 Went Missing From A Hotel Room

The Oscar dress valued at $150,000 that Lupita Nyong’o wore during the 87^th Academy Awards 2015 Oscars on Sunday later went missing from West Hollywood Hotel. Detectives from Los Angeles started investigating the theft on Wednesday but no suspects as yet. The police are trying to find out if anyone involved in the high-fashion theft was caught on the security cameras of the hotel.

The white Oscar dress which Francisco Costa designed for Calvin Klein is adorned with 6,000 Akoya pearls. All the pearls are also white in color. Nothing else was reported to have been stolen from the hotel room.

This isn’t the first theft of its kind. Cara Delavigne, a model, is said to have lost Jewellery that was valued at a million dollars from a hotel in Nice. She had worn the jewellery to the Cannes film festival.
